Quarantine Effects on Your Vehicle

Coronavirus lockdowns and quarantine affect your vehicle too. Has it been parked indefinitely while you isolate at home? What do you need to know to keep your car maintained during this time, and get it back on the road as restrictions are eased and movement is allowed?

Drive At Least Every 2 Weeks

Batteries discharge over time and it is recommended to start your car and/or drive it at least every 1-2 weeks. Depending on the age of your battery and other factors, we can help you determine the frequency.

If a car sits for too long, fluids start to separate, oil starts to settle, and seals can begin to dry out. Driving a vehicle regularly not only keeps the battery charged, it also helps to keep fluids circulating. This is one major reason that it’s suggested to go out for a drive rather than simply idling the vehicle.

When you go 3-4 weeks without driving, many things can start to go wrong.

Keep Your Normal Preventive Maintenance Schedule

Continue to change your oil at the recommended time intervals, and regularly check your vehicle’s brakes. Check coolant and other fluid levels before driving if it’s been sitting for awhile. When you do drive after an extended period, ease into using the brakes.

At Pacific Automotive, we perform scheduled maintenance services required for the manufacturer’s warranty.
